Union Item:  Transfer Locations

Transfer locations are posted on the Employee and Labor Relations web site at http://www.uiowa.edu/hr/relations/bargaining/afscme/locations.html are only changed when mutually agreed upon.  Revisions had been sent and meetings had been scheduled.  President John Stellmach requested the meetings be cancelled as he was not interested in discussing.

Union Item:  Notification of Code Greens

President John Stellmach requested that the Local Union be notified when Code Greens occur that cause any merit employees (one or more) to be injured and miss work.  Management will take his request under advisement.

Union Item:  Privatization of General Stores

The Union questioned whether outsourcing some positions in General Stores is in the best interest of the University. In follow up to this item, Management indicated that multiple factors played a role for outsourcing the General Stores Cylinder Gas Rental Operation including budgetary and safety concerns.  The two individuals employed in gas rental operation have been/will be reassigned within the department.  No employee positions will be eliminated as a result.

Union Item:  PNA/NA discussion

Guest Brian Daly raised the question of why nursing assistants (NAs) are being “floated” into psychiatric units while psychiatric nursing assistants (PNAs) may be “floated” out of the same unit during the same shift.  Mr. Staley asserted that Psychiatric Nursing Assistants have additional training that NAs don’t have.  Brian feels that this is a safety issue and only PNA’s should be allowed to float into psychiatric units.

Next meeting scheduled for August 16, 2011.

Meeting adjourned at 3:28 pm
