The Radiology Department at University of Iowa is a digital radiology department. It is equipped with the most complex and up-to-date digital imaging facility to meet the growing demands for research and education in radiology and medical imaging.
Hawkeye Radiology Informatics (HRI), an abbreviation for the Programs and Projects of Medical Imaging Informatics (MII) or Radiology Informatics (RI) in the Department of Radiology at the University of Iowa. It is a new radiology subspecialty with the advent of digital imaging and information management in the era of information and computational sciences and technologies. HRI is represents and responsible for the research activities in this domain. HRI specializes in various areas of radiology; namely dictation systems o fmedical informatics, biomedical research, field service engineering, large-scale high performance computing and medical image data mining and intensive computing systems, the Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS), and the Radiology Information Service (RIS) System. Nationally recognized for its expertise in electronic image acquisition, image distribution and image archiving, the division performs the following functions within the department under the leadership of the department head.
Responsible for designing digital imaging IT infrastructures, sustaining and maintaining medical imaging computing facilities and networks, developing collaborative relationships between the department and UIHC Hospital Information System, supporting departmental free-standing radiology research centers and labs, medical imaging institute, and radiologists' offices.
Assists departmental executives in IT aspects by providing a mission/vision, designing infrastructure and strategic plan, task forces, technical supports and reports, recommendations and IT operational performance assessments.
- Designs and maintains the Radiology Information Service (RIS) system.
- Develops the infrastructure and participates in the implementation and implementation of UI hospital information systems.
- Involved in research to develop cutting-edge technologies and methodologies to allow referring physicians’ and radiologists' electronic access to radiology reports and images
- Conducts independent research projects related to medical imaging processing, data management/date storage systems, medical informatics and radiology informatics.
- Develops medical imaging and radiology informatics related curriculums through credit courses, and training programs for radiologists, and/or fellow/residents.
The hawkeye radiology profesisonals is consists of remarkable radiologists, physicians, researchers, graduate students, undergraduate students, and other support staff.
