Internatiional Research Internship Program - Prearranged internships are in Eastern/Central Europe and Africa, although students have the opportunity to arranging their own site/project. The summer internship will last for ten - twelve weeks, beginning after May 14th, 2010.
Clinical Psychology - I am looking for undergraduate students to assist with two research studies. One study examines psychopathology among low-income mothers, and the other study focuses on whether the biological changes that accompany pregnancy cause depression and anxiety symptoms. Timeline: Summer 2009-Spring 2010. Responsibilities: Work as part of a team to conduct eligibility interviews with research participants, enter data using Microsoft Excel, schedule participant interviews, and collect women’s hormone samples. There are several opportunities to conduct an independent research project. Requirements: 3.5 GPA, 9 hours per week, 2 semester commitment, 2 letters of recommendation. Psychology Research Assistant needed for Summer 2009-Spring 2010. Research project: Assist with a large assessment project focused on disordered eating attitudes and behaviors. Duties: Obtain informed consent, proctor research sessions, interview psychiatric patients and community members (must have spent at least 1 semester in lab prior to interviewing), data entry, and attend weekly lab meetings. This position is designed for students interested in attending a clinically-oriented graduate program or medical school (e.g., clinical psychology or psychiatry). There are numerous opportunities to develop your own research project for presentation or publication. Paid opportunities may be available after 1 semester. Intermedia Digital Archive Research FellowThe Intermedia Digital Archive is a work-in-progress digital collection of rare video and performance art spanning nearly forty years. Initiated in January 2009, the project’s first stage has been used to catalog high-value holdings, outsource exceptionally fragile and rare materials for digital transfer, and establish a process for transferring the remaining videotapes in-house. We are seeking a Research Fellow for the second stage of the project, to be initiated September 2009.Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:Transferring heritage video formats to digital files, suitable for delivery over high-speed networks, Working with library staff and Intermedia faculty to determine best collection and distribution practices, Investigating copyright ownership and contacting artists and their estates for copyright clearances, Negotiating with online collections, such as Internet Archive, to create a freely accessible, public interface for video and performance works for which the Intermedia program holds clear copyright, Pursuing external grant funding, in conjunction with faculty mentor, for subsequent phases of the project.Opportunities for conference participation and publication will be actively sought during the second phase of the project, and it is expected that the research fellow would be a full partner in these efforts.Undergraduate students interested in pursuing careers in library science, digital preservation, museum studies, or curating are particularly sought. Political Science Research Assistant Needed ASAP! Student will assist in research required to complete the second edition of Professor Vicki Hesli's textbook titled "Governments and Politics in Russia and the Post-Soviet Region." The work involved is updating text on the basis of new elections and new policy directions that have occurred in the region. The book is designed for use in undergraduate courses on comparative politics, post-Soviet politics, and Russian politics. The primary audience is students in courses on Russian Politics - with instructors who want to put their presentation and discussion of the Russian political system into a broader comparative context. A secondary audience is students in courses on Comparative Politics - with instructors who wish to include consideration of post-Soviet countries in their overview of other political systems such as Germany or the United Kingdom. The Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Institute at The University of Iowa (NNI@UI) is pleased to announce a summer research experiences for undergraduates (REU) program in nanoscience and nanotechnology funded by the National Science Foundation. Interested undergraduate students will work with faculty mentors from the departments of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Pharmacy, and Occupational and Environmental Health at The University of Iowa. Behavioral Neuroscience Laboratory - due ASAP
I am looking for exceptional undergraduates (preferably first- or second-year students) to work in my behavioral neuroscience laboratory. The ideal student would interested in training for graduate school in psychology or neuroscience. Because the lab focuses on the development of sleep and biological rhythms in young rodents, you must be comfortable working with animals. Initial responsibilities entail general laboratory chores but, in time, hands-on research and even independent projects are possible. Students typically begin as volunteers but ultimately can receive course credit or payment. Ten hours per week is generally expected for a new student in the lab. Surgery Residents-as-Educators Project - Due ASAP
The department of surgery at the University of Iowa launched a project last year to help the residents training to be surgeons be more effective in their role as educators of the medical students who rotate on their teams. We (surgeons Dr. Hisakazu Hoshi and Kim Ephgrave, and PhD educator Dr. Jeff Pettit) arranged for trained medical students to play out standardized teaching scenarios with 3rd and 4th year residents prior to the series of workshops, and again after the series of workshops which took place during the 07/08 academic year. We need help from an undergraduate who would be interested in developing standardized ways to measure and rate teaching behaviors in the videotapes we have of each of the teaching encounters, and then perform the videotape ratings. Psychology - Professor Grazyna Kochanska's Social Development Laboratory in the - Due ASAP We are looking for at least one very good student to employ as an undergraduate research assistant. We are most interested in a senior psychology major who would consider a commitment throughout the 2008/2009 academic year as an undergraduate, and then would continue through the next year as a full-time research assistant. This is often the perfect arrangement for individuals who intend to pursue an advanced degree in psychology, but would like to take a year or two off between college and graduate school. Such positions provide extensive research experience and substantial credentials that greatly enhance resumes of applicants to graduate programs. McNair Scholars Program - Due ASAP
I invite you to explore the opportunities available to you in The University of Iowa McNair Scholars Program. As a McNair Scholar, you will benefit from a mentored academic environment designed to prepare you for achieving your goal of graduate training and research. You will actively participate in workshops that will aid you in strengthening your academic preparations for transitioning to graduate school. You will meet regularly for informal conversations and discussions with faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and graduate students to learn about the graduate experience. You will attend journal clubs and seminars to hear about cutting edge research ongoing in laboratories at Iowa and from around the world. Finally, you will identify a research area of your choice, join a research team, and add your own contributions to this discovery process. Each Scholar will undertake an 8-week research intensive experience in a UI research laboratory. Collectively, these activities will solidify a foundation upon which you can build your future. Each year, nine University of Iowa undergraduates will be competitively appointed to the UI McNair Scholars Program as “Iowa Scholars.” In addition, eighteen undergraduates from outside the University of Iowa will be competitively appointed to the UI McNair Scholars Program as “Visiting Scholars” each year. Interns participate in on-site work experiences with DOC bureaus and offices in order to integrate academic theory and workplace requirements, gain relevant skills and knowledge, explore Federal career options, develop professional networks, and gain a greater awareness of the role of Federal agencies. Basic eligibility requires enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student at two and four-year accredited educational institutions, as well as U.S. citizenship. Interns receive stipends as well as paid round-trip transportation expenses between their schools/homes and work locations. Most internships are in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area, but some assignments are available at locations around the United States, where Commerce regional and local offices are situated (see matrix above). Interns hosted under the Postsecondary Internship Program are not employees of the Department of Commerce; rather, they are affiliated with the sponsoring organization with which the Department collaborates to recruit interns.
