| Research programmes are on long term, medium
term and long term basis. The Centre is interested in addressing the strategic elements
and critical factors which impact upon and affect its mandate. Working in support of Nigerias WID agenda, including the newly-launched Family Support Programme (under the Chairmanship of the First Lady Hajia Maryam Abacha for Action and the 94 platform for Action of Beijing 95, the Centre has earmarked the following areas for its research activities. a) Womens status in Nigeria b) The Nigerian Family c) Women Enterpreneurship in Nigeria d) Status of the Nigerian Child e) Harmful traditional practices f) Gender complimentarity g) Female Headed Household h) Widowhood practices i) Women-in-politics j) Violence against women k) Womens Health l) Women and the environment m) Women and peace n) Women and Rural Development o) Family Enterpreneurship p) Nigerias Cooperative System q) Drug Abuse r) Media Support for WID s) Women and Credit
Both to functionalise and disseminate research efforts, as well as promote skills acquisition, technical development and thematic capacity building, the centre engages in high quality, action-oriented Training, covering: I) Gender studies ii) Management iii) Entrepreneurship iv) Marketing v) Skill Acquisition vi) Communications vii) Networking viii) Finance ix) NGO Development x) Leadership xi) Credit and Resource Mobilization The Centre has fellowship, scholarship and roundtable schemes aimed at encouraging exchange of persons and ideas, training and scholarstic activities. It has also designed summer course programmes for foreigners aimed at promoting the image, needs, understanding and development of the African women. The Centre is actively promoting its gender - readership scheme which is to help popularise gender - literature among Nigerians. Finally, the Centre offers consultancy services to women and non-governmental organisations nationwide, while being available to all bodies and governments interested in quality advice on WID. |
