| History | |
| The Systems Unit of the Library was created in
1993 when the university benefited from credit facilities from the World Bank. At that
time, each of the Federal University libraries was supplied with one PC each with which to
enter the data on book and journals orders. The University of Jos Library had, however, provided for a Systems Unit in her re-defined philosophy for library services which was effected in 1980. Since then, librarians in the library had brainstormed on the best approach to automation. The World Bank intervention was therefore a natural accelerator of the computerization process in the library. Since then, the Unit has grown tremendously in terms of hard and software development and other essential resources to provide needed services both for in-house operations and, especially, for our clients. The Computer Center of the University through the efforts of its Director - Mr. Emmanuel G. Eseyin, was quite instrumental in the growth and development of the Library Systems Unit. |
