Q: How do I enroll in an ICON Online Course?
A: To enroll in an ICON Online course, log into Self Service using your HawkID and password. Once you have successfully logged in:
- Click on the “Personal” tab, and locate the “My Training” link listed under “Learning & Development”.
- On the “My Training” screen, click on the “Available Online ICON Courses” link to view the online courses.
- The ICON courses to enroll in will be listed, click on the course title you would like to register for.
(Once you have enrolled in an ICON class, or have completed the class, it will no longer be listed here). - To register for the course, simply click the “Enroll in this ICON Course” button.
It will take a few seconds to register (please be patient), and a new window will open and display the course. You can now begin the course in ICON.
Q: How do I locate the contents of the course?
A: In the upper left hand corner there is a narrow horizontal bar under the ICON logo. Click on “Content” to open the content for the course. The actual content of a course may appear one of two ways: all at once or one unit at a time. Depending on how the course is created when you enter a course, either all of the content will be displayed or just the initial units you have completed will display. In some courses you will need to successfully complete a unit before the next portion of the course will appear. Regardless of how content is displayed, click on the first link at the top of the content listed to start the course.
Q: After selecting "content" in my ICON course, I still cannot view the contents. What do I do?
A: If you have registered for the course, logged into the course and navigated to content, and you still cannot see any content, you may need to download software to enable your browser. To check if you have the correct browser software, you can click on the “Software Check” link in the content area of the course. If you need to install the Flash Player software, directions will be displayed. Or, download the latest version of Flash Player by clicking on the following link: http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/ - Click the “Download now” button to get the current version of Flash for your browser.
Before you actually download the player, uncheck the box next to the Google toolbar. This isn’t needed for Flash Player and may clutter your browser screen. Follow the directions.
Q: I need to return to my registered ICON course. How do I do that?
A: Log into Self Service using your HawkID and password. Once you have successfully logged in:
- Click on the “Personal” tab, and locate the “My Training” link listed under “Learning & Development”.
- On the “My Training” screen, locate the class you are enrolled in listed under “ICON Courses Currently Enrolled In".
- Click on the course title, this will take you directly to the course within ICON.
Q: Does every course have a quiz?
A: Not all courses will have a quiz, however, to successfully complete many courses you will need to take a quiz.
Q: My course has a quiz, how do I take the quiz?
A: To take a quiz you will need to advance from content to the quiz in ICON. You will be prompted from content to click on the right arrow in the upper right hand corner of the screen. This will take you to the quiz. To begin the quiz, click on “Start Quiz!” After taking a quiz you may need to click on a content link on the left side of the screen to continue through the course. This is the same way you started content for the course.
Q: How do I know that I have passed the quiz?
A: If the course you are taking has quizzes, you can check your score by clicking on the word “Grades” located on the right end of the narrow horizontal bar near the top of the page. Once you click on the “Grades” link, the quiz(s) for the course will be displayed and percentages displayed for each assessment.
Q: How do I know that I have successfully completed the course?
A: Once you have successfully completed a course, Self Service will update your course status in “My Training” by moving the course from the Enrolled section to the Completed section of the screen. Normally, your complete status will be reflected within 24 hours.
Q: I have completed my course, where is it located in "My Training"?
A: : Log into Self Service using your HawkID and password. Once you have successfully logged in:
- Click on the “Personal” tab, and locate the “My Training” link listed under “Learning & Development”.
- Scroll down the page and the complete ICON course should be listed under the "Completed ICON Courses" header.
Q: I completed the ICON course but it is not showing up as complete in "My Training". Why?
A: For the majority of courses you need to score 80% or better on any quiz or assessment to successfully complete the course. If you are unsure about your percentage, you can log into the course and check your "Grades" (located in ICON on the right end of the horizontal bar near the top of the page).
