Position Specific Checklist
- Explain the responsibilities of the position.
- Give employee job description to review.
- Begin discussion about what resources are available to support employee in meeting job expectations.
- Follow up with this discussion at one month meeting.
- Provide necessary resources for employee to meet expectations of any gap in performance expectation.
- Determine if training or additional orientation is needed. If so, refer to Developing a Training Plan.
- Determine other available resources such as mentors, peer coaching, reading list, etc.
- Develop a systematic orientation and development plan for new employee that includes the opportunity to work with others in the unit.
- Explain any methods for completing work.
- Determine level of authority position holds related to decision-making and project completion.
- Determine task-specific procedures.
- Determine methods for keeping co-workers, supervisor and others informed of progress or concerns.
- Explain Performance Management.
- Explain performance review process including frequency of formal reviews, how and from whom data is collected, and the importance of two-way, respectful communication and feedback between the supervisor and new employee.
