HR Fundamentals is a certificate program for the new human resource representatives that will include an overview class on basic HR philosophy and eight core competency areas. HR representatives will be able to complete the courses during a 12-month period.
Core Courses:
- Compensation and Classification (both Merit and P&S)
- Performance Review Process and Using Progressive Discipline
- Dispute Resolution, Workplace Consultations, and Conflict Management Policies
- University Policy: Leaves, FMLA, and Workers' Compensation
- Electronic Workflow and HR Reports and Transactions

- Payroll and Benefits

The Advanced Management Series is a program designed to support managers who are ready to achieve the next level of professional development. Our content and delivery is individualized, structured, and based on measurable goals. Due to space limitations, early registrations by managers/supervisors who can commit to the entire series will be honored first. A one-time admission fee is required to support program costs. To receive a Advanced Management Series certificate, participants must complete the entire core curriculum that includes ten courses.

Are you looking for ways to meet the daily challenges of leading people and coordinating work as a front-line supervisor? This series will provide you with tools, strategies, and UI resources to enhance performance through effective, respectful working relationships with your staff. Enrollment in this series is intended for front-line supervisors with line or functional supervision, with no budgetary or strategic planning responsibilities.
Completion Requirements:
To receive the maximum benefit, and a series certificate of completion, it is recommended that supervisors complete all courses included in the series. Those meeting the requirements will be awarded their certificate at the series celebration.

Building our Global Community Series
Consistent with UI strategic goals on diversity, the Office of International Students and Scholars and UI Learning & Development are offering workshops on skills and insights useful to faculty and staff as they seek to educate and serve international students and scholars. Workshops are free and open to all regardless of participation in the certificate program.
Participants who complete the required introductory workshop, plus their choice of four specialized workshops within a two-year period of time will be eligible for a Global Certificate.
Courses may vary from year to year, but have included:

- Immigration Regulations that Affect Foreign Students

Also, as part of the series, Country Culture Workshops present staff with the opportunity to acquire knowledge about the different cultural, social and political trends in particular countries and cultures. Participants will learn practical information on cultural issues in order to work with students from specific regions of the world more effectively.

This series is potentially targeted to a range of University staff members including managers and frontline staff who are responsible for processing UI transactions, either financial or human resources related. New employees frequently request resources and guidance in entering and processing a dizzying array of forms, and deciphering UI-specific terms and protocols.
