An Afternoon of Presentations on Alternative
Professional Careers in the Biosciences
This event, held July 17, 2008, was a success,
and we are hoping to do it again this year.
Panelists gave short talks about their career paths and current careers, followed by a panel discussion and question period. There was a reception following that, where students were able to talk individually with the panelists. The panelists were individuals who have received their Ph.D. in an area of bioscience and who have chosen careers other than being a professor at a major university. The panelists included a scientist from a biotech company, a biocontainment officer, a faculty member at a small liberal arts college, a program project officer at NIH, a researcher in bioinformatics, and a clinical microbiologist.
