Duties/Responsibilities: To direct and oversee day-to-day operations of grants, preparation of reports and documents, planning and design, recommend expenditure of program funds, provide technical assistance, oversee research grants and contracts from negotiations through close-outs. As grant manager for Special Populations actively promote CDMRP’s effort to increase the number of African American, Hispanic and Native American scientists in the CDMRP cancer research areas. To inform Minority Institutions of research funding mechanisms, which are focused on the Historically Black College and Universities/Minority institutions.

Characterized immortalized reproductive cells for their response to reproductive hormones.
Studied Neisseria gonorrhoeae adherence to endometrial cells in infection studies.
Developed several reporter systems to analyze transcriptional activity of genes in response to different reproductive hormonal conditions. Identified several gonococcal genes that have altered expression after exposure to both hormone and endometrial cells.

Study of the genetics, regulation and structures of H. influenzae lsg’s resulted in significant research experience with molecular biology, carbohydrate biochemistry, bacterial pathogenesis, gene cloning, immunology and mass spectroscopy. Identification and cloning of the wecA gene in H. influenzae.

SERVICE
- Representative, Fellow Awards for Research Excellence 2004 (FARE 2004) Committee, January 2003 until September 2003. Duties involved every stage of the abstract grant competition. This included planning and execution, new study section testing, selection of study section judges, requests for abstract submissions, event publicity and writing summations decisions and comments of study section judges. These duties were conducted with support of the NIH Office of Education.
- Chairperson, Career Development Subcommittee for National Institute of Health Fellows Committee (Felcom) August 2002 - November 2003. Served as a liaison to NIH Office of Education program officer and Office of Extramural Affairs. Directed decisions on a series of topics, planned symposia format, invited and hosted guest speakers, and advertised events throughout the NIH community. The goal of this committee is to provide NIH fellows the opportunity to examine other career paths.
