Phys. Med. Biol.:Abstract. For the first time, three-dimensional images of the newborn infant brain have been generated using measurements of transmitted light. A 32-channel time-resolved imaging system was employed, and data were acquired using custom-made helmets which couple source fibres and detector bundles to the infant head. Images have been reconstructed using measurements of mean flight time relative to those acquired on a homogeneous reference phantom, and using a head-shaped 3D finite-element-based forward model with an external boundary constrained to match the measured positions of the sources and detectors. Results are presented for a premature infant with a cerebral haemorrhage predominantly located within the left ventricle. Images representing the distribution of absorption at 780 nm and 815 nm reveal an asymmetry consistent with the haemorrhage, and corresponding maps of blood volume and fractional oxygen saturation are generally within expected physiological values. If you are interested in submit paper(s), here is the submission link.(Submission)

Medical Imaging - Cambridge University Press : 'This work is more than a simple compendium. Its reading is pleasant. it casts light on both the meanings of words and the basics of MRI. I personally found it very inventive as it will contribute to clarify difficult concepts and to make easier the dialogue between each link of the MRI chain. I would clearly recommend the purchase of this book to anyone who wants to know hat he is dealing with when ordering, acquiring, interpreting MRI images or MRI spectrometry. Moreover, it will be invaluable reading it for each single individual of the MRI manufacturers' staffs.' Pediatric Radiology.

Wiley::International Journal of Imaging Systems and Technology :
As imaging science/technology matures, it becomes clear that it is more than an assorted collection of methods and devices, each invented for a specific application. It is striking that the same ideas are used in such allegedly diverse fields as medical tomography and astronomy, in searching for patterns in radar images, as well as in quality control in the textile industry. What seems to be a fundamental unifying feature in all aspects of imaging is the brain's (still not well-understood) ability to parallel process an image and to simultaneously receive an array of data which would be impossible if received in numerical form. Some devices and algorithms are successful precisely because they strive to imitate or exploit this ability.

The Integration of Medical Imaging and Information Technology ... : Information technology (IT) and medical imaging make a unique pair when it comes to patient care and diagnosis, and in the extremely dynamic field of cardiology, emerging imaging technologies are playing an expanding role in presenting physicians with new information on which to base their treatment choices. The integration of IT and networking, imaging, and monitoring products can create solutions that help hospitals address three important needs: 1) improved quality of care, 2) critical time-savings through improving workflow efficiency and 3) anytime, anywhere access within the healthcare enterprise to full electronic medical records with built in knowledge-based elements to help minimize the risk of errors.

Imaging - Medical* : The extent of the body's response to a drug depends on the amount administered, called the dose. At a low dose, no response may be apparent. A higher dose, however, may produce the desired effect. An even higher dose may produce an undesirable or harmful response. For example, to relieve a headache most adults require two tablets of aspirin. A half tablet may provide no relief from pain while ten tablets may cause burning pain in the stomach or nausea. The doses prescribed by physicians are those recommended by each drug's manufacturer to produce the best therapeutic, or medically beneficial, responses in the majority of patients. However, doses may need to be adjusted in certain individuals. For example, a person may be born without the enzyme required to metabolize a particular drug while other individuals may suffer from lung disorders that prevent them from absorbing inhaled drugs. Factors such as alcohol consumption, age, the method of drug administration, and whether or not the individual has taken the drug previously can affect an individual's response to a drug.

Mental Health - Psychiatry &* : The table in the latest edition of Comprehensive Textbook of Psychiatry that lists the important persons and events in the history of Psychiatry (Colp, 2000) begins with Hippocrates, mentions Robert Burton, Daniel M¡¯Naghton, misuse of psychiatric treatment in USSR, etc, etc, and finally ends with comments on the applications of computers and internet in Psychiatry. The internet have been described as the most important development in global communication since both the television and the telephone (Al-Shahi et al, 2002), and this revolution is providing the medical professionals across the globe with an unprecedented access to invaluable information. Articles that discuss how the net is changing the day-to-day practice of Psychiatry have already appeared in major psychiatric journals (For e.g., Huang and Alessi, 1996; Al-Shahi et al, 2002). Healthcare workers in the developing world have for years had the problem of very limited access to the latest information that is the lifeblood of effective health care and as a direct result, their patients suffer (Grant, 1994; Godlee et al, 2000). Information also underpins the learning, research, and debate that drive a country forward, and access to information is essential for describing and understanding the deficiencies of the present, building visions of a better future, developing practical ways to achieve those visions, and educating and inspiring those who must make the future (Godlee et al, 2000). Whereas the professionals in the developed world have information overload, the developing countries have bare library shelves - and the internet provides an opportunity to narrow this gap (Kennard, 2001). For eg, under the auspices of the World Health Organization, leading medical publishers have agreed to provide free access to electronic versions of journals to people working in developing countries (Kmietowicz, 2001). But, unfortunately, most of us fail to fully utilize the amazing possibilities the internet has to offer, since we are not adequately informed.
