Even within city limits, you can see one of Iowa's lesser-known treasures, the American Bald Eagle. They benefit us in many ways. Besides representing pride, strength, and freedom with their beauty and grace in flight, our national bird is very much a part of a balanced ecosystem. They clean up carrion and eat fish and small mammals, thereby helping to prevent the overpopulation of animals like mice and rabbits. You can watch these majestic birds if you just take time to look up while walking around, perhaps even in your own neighborhood.
