What child hasn't played with a tiny frog on a sultry Iowa summer day? Growing up in Iowa guarantees memories of chasing frogs beside muddy creeks or across green lawns. These friendly green creatures have been manhandled, chased, caged, and even been a part of the occasional tea party. Frogs are a fact of life in Iowa—seldom seen (except in the hands of the young), but their hoarse addition to the twilight orchestra signals the end of humid summer day. An Iowa summer would not be complete without the song of the frog.
