Diversity Climate Committee

Charge to the Committee

To ascertain whether all members of the University community are able to fulfill their aspirations in an equitable manner, the Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity, with the support of former President David Skorton and the guidance of an advisory committee of faculty, administrators, and staff from across campus, conducted diversity climate surveys in 2005. The advisory committee was charged to examine the following areas:

1. Campus climate for faculty, staff and students

  • Perceptions of access, equity and inclusion
  • Perceptions of institutional commitment to diversity

2. Level and quality of inter-group relations among faculty, staff and students

  • Quality of experience in living, learning and working environments
  • Levels of use and engagement in a variety of activities, offices and resources
  • Level of faculty and staff participating in diversity-related efforts

3. Diversity awareness of faculty, staff and students

  • Level of exposure students have to diversity courses/programs and to diverse faculty, staff and students
  • How much and what faculty, staff and students have learned about diversity
