CollectionsIn June 2006 the UIMA opened its innovative new teaching gallery of ceramics with a selection of over 300 objects from the collection. The initial installation, chosen by curator and ceramist Gerald Eskin, is entitled Pots and Vessels. It focuses on handmade functional ware as well as vessel forms that reference the functional pot. The exhibition includes works in clay from a broad range of early cultures, including Asian and Middle Eastern cultures, as well as African, Pre-Columbian, and Native American objects. The gallery features more than 50 recent acquisitions, including major works by Peter Voulkos, Jun Kaneko, Don Reitz, and Toshiko Takaezu.
