The meeting was called to order by David Johnsen, Committee chairman, at 1:00. The minutes from the March 9 meeting were accepted as circulated.

Updates and announcements: Dean Johnsen announced that area legislators will attend next week's meeting, providing their legislative agenda allows. Dean Johnsen provided a draft list of questions that might be asked during that discussion.

Lee Anna Clark has scheduled a meeting with the WISE (Women in Science and Engineering) group next Wednesday, March 21, and Sarah England has solicited feedback from the major medical researchers. Len Hadley and Dean Johnsen attended the meeting of the Board of Regents, State of Iowa, in Cedar Falls last week, where Dean Johnsen provided a report on the Presidential Search Committee's progress.

Dean Johnsen provided biographical information about the four nominees to the Board of Regents and read a draft of a congratulatory letter to those nominees (Bonnie Campbell, Jack Evans, Craig Lang, and David Miles) from the Presidential Search Committee. The Committee members expressed their appreciation and support for the letter.

The process by which the list of nominees can be shortened was discussed. In order to be as efficient as possible, the Committee will break into four small groups to discuss and evaluate candidates using a one-page evaluation form devised over the past two weeks. Dean Johnsen asked that, in the spirit of openness and transparency, all sub-group meetings be publicly announced.

Len Hadley moved that the Committee move to Closed Session in order to discuss the names of individual candidates. Sarah Vigmostad seconded the motion. A roll call vote of the meeting participants was unanimously in favor of the motion, and the public portion of the meeting ended at 1:25 p.m.
