Potlucks - Nobody's potlucks compare to ours. At least once per year we have potlucked dinners with our advisors and we never have a shortage of excellent home-cooked food. AALSA (for whatever reason) has always been filled with excellent cooks who can make anything from Asian cuisine to Greek to Fusion. However, because the food is so good, we only advertise our potlucks on the AALSA Listserv.
Outlines - Past members have provided us with their outlines for a variety of different classes for use by AALSA members.
Listserv - To keep track of all our events and keep our members abreast of different events throughout the University, we have a mailing list. If you would like to be added to this list to find out all about our potlucks, current social/cultural/political events and more, come to a meeting or drop by when AALSA is tabling to sign up. You can also talk to any of the current officers.
Conferences - Every year, our national organizations hold conferences on topics of Asian-related legal issues and each year, we have sent at least one delegate. This past year, one of our members represented AALSA and the University of Iowa at a conference in Hawaii. All AALSA members are welcome to attend these conferences and have a portion of their trip funded by AALSA if financially feasible for AALSA.
Moot Court - In the fall, there is a moot court competition in honor of the late Honorable Thomas Tang. Last fall, AALSA sent one team to the regional competition in Chicago.
Dues (None) - That's right: WE HAVE NO DUES! All of our funding comes from UI Student Government, our fundraising events and other charitable contributions. Our members do not pay a cent for the excellent privilege of being a part of AALSA and having access to our countless benefits!
Meetings - The number of meetings per semester is determined by
the exec board. However, meetings tend to be fairly short and optional.
The content of these meetings is AALSA business such as fundraising (no
political brainwashing or anything like that) and conference planning.
