Why should my son join a fraternity?
Fraternities exist as
a proven support network for your son as he embarks on this new
period in his life.
The fraternity can help personalize your son's college experience by
offering a scholastic support system; hands-on experience in leading
committees, managing budgets, and interacting with faculty and
administrators; exposure to potential careers through educational
programs and discussions with alumni; the chance to give back the
community through service projects; and close friends who will cheer
him on when he is successful and support him when times are tough.
A fraternity provides a home-away-from-home for your son. He will add to his college experience by meeting men of like interests and working to develop his life outside the classroom.
How is Alpha Epsilon Pi different than other fraternities?
Alpha Epsilon Pi, the Jewish Fraternity of North America, was founded to provide opportunities for a Jewish man seeking the best possible college and fraternity experience. We have maintained the integrity of our purpose by strengthening our ties to the Jewish community and serving as a link between high school and career. We maintain over 120 groups in the United States and we are the largest fraternity in Canada.
Alpha Epsilon Pi develops leadership for the future of the North American Jewish community. The Jewish leaders of tomorrow are in our chapters today. Our partner agencies assist us with our Jewish mission. Over the past five years, over 500 men have gone to Israel through their membership in Alpha Epsilon Pi. We work with the local Hillel and with other community resources to help provide this positive Jewish experience.
How long is the pledge period?
In 1988, Alpha Epsilon Pi set its standard pledge period at five
weeks maximum. The pledge program does not allow for hazing
nor will hazing be tolerated. It is an educational program
that imparts necessary information to the pledge so that he will
know and understand the Alpha Epsilon Pi experience. There are
also alternate pledge programs of 21ž2- weeks and a one-week
programs.
What is the Alpha Epsilon Policy on alcohol, drugs, hazing, etc.?
All of these risk issues are answered in our Risk Management Policy. Alpha Epsilon Pi is a founding member of FIPG, Inc., the Interfraternity Risk Management Association as well as a founding member of FRMT, Ltd., the captive insurance company that insures 22 national fraternities. As such, we have strict policies regarding open parties and underage drinking. The national AEPi organization employs a full-time Director of Risk Management to monitor our chapter implementation. We care about our brothers and their guests. As a parent, you should also be supportive of responsible behaviors and encourage your son to become familiar with our Risk Management Policy.
What if I hear about hazing from my
son?
Alpha Epsilon Pi maintains a hazing hotline, which is available for
your son or you to call the Executive Office and report violations
of our pledge policy. You may either E-mail your concern to
the National Director of Chapter Services,
Andrew Borans, or you may call
the hazing hotline at

We follow up on all calls and if you wish, you may remain anonymous,
telling us only the name of the school or chapter.
Pledge activities never start out with the intention to hurt someone, but that sometimes becomes the consequence. We do not want to see anyone injured. Our goal is a safe and informative pledge period for your son so that he will become a productive member of our brotherhood.
