Sold out!: Land of the Flying Masks: Art and Culture in Burkina Faso
by Christopher D. Roy 2007: Munich Prestel

New on the ALA Web Site (last updated January 20, 2008)
The Art and Life in Africa CD-ROM continues to work very well on Windows machines, but it does not work with Apple OS10. The program will run nicely on Mac "Classic", that is Mac OS 9 if you have a computer with "Classic" installed. If you install it on any machine with Windows it will run well. It will run even better if you ask your computer to run it in Windows '95/'98 mode. Place the cursor over the ALA icon on your desktop and right click. Scroll down to "Program Properties" and click on "Windows '95/'98". It will run as well as it did out of the box. The program will also run on newer Intel-based Macs. Many people install Parallels Desktop and Windows XP or Vista on their new Macs so they can run Windows programs. This also works very well. Again the only OS the CD will not work on is Mac OS10.

The Changing Face of Burkina Faso, 1970-2008 Photographs of Burkina from 1970 to 2008 show how much has changed and how much has remained the same, and how wide is the gap between "haves and have nots." Rural poverty and cultural creativity to urban prosperity and an elegant fashion show.

Village of Boni/Village de Boni, Burkina Faso The village of Boni is one of the most interesting places to visit in West Africa. The people are very creative and hospitable, and if you visit from February to May you may be able to see the spectacular plank and animal masks perform in traditional village celebrations. These are not put on for the benefit of tourists, but tourists are very welcome to attend. The village is very easy to reach on the main highway between Ouagadougou and Bobo-Dioulasso.
