Glossary

tableau:

A grouping of objects or people.

talismanic:

Relating to an object that offers the wearer supernatural powers or protection.

talismans:

Objects that provide the owner with powers or protection.

taunt:

Ridicule.

tenets:

Opinions or principles held as being true by a person or an organization.

thermoluminescence:

A scientific method for dating objects that identifies certain minerals which release previously absorbed radiation upon being moderately heated.

tiered:

One of a series of rows placed one above another. May also refer to a layering of rank or class.

totemic:

An emblem or symbol which may be respected as the founder, ancestor, or guardian of the community.

transcend:

To pass beyond normal limits of emotion or physical state.

transcendent:

Beyond the ordinary range of perception.

transgressed:

Violated the law or acted against normal behavior or expectations.

transgressors:

People who break a law or command.

transliteration:

Representation of words or letters in another language or alphabet.

transverse(ing):

Lying or moving crosswise.

triad:

A group of three.

tribulations:

Experiences that test one's endurance, patience, or faith.

troupes:

Touring companies or groups of performers, such as actors, singers, or dancers.

trousseau:

The possessions that a bride assembles for her marriage.

truculence:

A disposition to fight, especially fiercely.

turaco:

Any of various cuckoo like African birds.

turret:

A small tower or tower-shaped projection on a building.

tutelary:

A guardian or protector.
