Lieutenant Colonel Steven Nielsen

 

Since July of 2007, Lt. Col. Nielsen has been the Commander and Professor of Aerospace Studies here at Detachment 255.

 Prior to commanding Det. 255, Lt. Col. Nielsen was Deputy Director, Operations Management, Tanker Airlift Control Center, at Scott Air Force Base, IL. Other previous experience include pilot training on the T-38, C-5, and C-17A aircraft, as well as working as a pilot instructor for each of the previously mentioned aircraft. Lt. Col. Nielsen has worked on seven different Air Force bases covering five states and Germany.

His major awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Aerial Achievement Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, and the Air Force Commendation Medal.

Lt. Col. Nielsen's Air Force Career began when he commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in 1987 through the ROTC program at Iowa State University. Lt. Col. Nielsen enjoys spending most of his free time with his family.
