Lieutenant Colonel Rick Spyker

Lt Col Rick A. Spyker is the Commander of AFROTC Detachment 255 and Professor of Aerospace Studies, The University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa. He is a core Airfield Operations Officer and is also qualified as a Regional Affairs Specialist (Europe). Col Spyker has been assigned as an airfield operations flight commander at the squadron level and has held staff positions at two numbered air forces. Col Spyker garnered operational experience while assigned two Air Operations Centers, including time in both combat airspace plans and operations. Additionally, he has deployed in support of Operations RESTORE HOPE, SOUTHERN WATCH, and ENDURING FREEDOM. Prior to earning his commission in 1993, Col Spyker served as an enlisted member in the Air Force and National Guard. During this time, he deployed to Southwest Asia in support of Operations DESERT SHIELD and DESERT STORM. Just prior to assuming his present position, he was an assistant professor and director of the airpower studies course at the Air Command and Staff College (ACSC), Maxwell AFB, AL.
