AFROTC is the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps. It is one of three ways to attain officership within the United States Air Force, the other routes being the Air Force Academy and OTS. AFROTC is a program which takes college students that are interested in the Air Force and in becoming future officers. The program trains them to become just that. AFROTC is available to any college student that is able to pass an Air Force physical, maintains a minimum 2.5 GPA or has the potential too, and has no criminal record or at least a record that can be waivered based on the severity and situation of the offense. The program consists of a 1 hour college credit class once per semester that meets once a week, a Leadership Laboratory that meets once a week, and a minimum of 2 physical training sessions a week. The mission of the program is to develop quality leaders for the Air Force, and it does just that. Cadets are trained in effective methods of leadership, followership, and teamwork. During these sessions cadets work with their peers and POC cadets to hone the skills that are necessary for Field Training and later active duty.
