Cadet Views of Air Force ROTC
"At first I was a little nervous about being in ROTC. I'm not really from a military background, so I had no clue what to expect. I soon came to find that the cadre here are amazing and will help you with anything whether it be school or ROTC related. You soon become close with the cadets around you and everything becomes less scary and starts feeling like you have a second family"
"From the very beginning I was excited about joining ROTC. It was a little bit intimidating at the start. The first experience I had was first year ROTC orientation. The orientation process was a little foreign to me due to the large volume of paperwork that had be done in a precise manner. After orientation, classes started and along with my academic classes so did ROTC. Through the ROTC classes I have met many people. These people were very quick to be accepting and made me feel like part of the group from the start. The Cadre has been very helpful and is always willing to answer questions. Overall this has been an exciting time and I am very excited for the years of ROTC I have left."
"When I joined the ROTC, I didn't realize how many cool people there would be in it. There are so many people in the ROTC that I probably wouldn't have met if I wasn't part of such an awesome group. I'm glad that I decided to join. I'm excited for the next 4 years."
"AFROTC was a chance for me to try something I had always wanted to do but never had the opportunity. I've learned that I can do things I never thought i could. The thing I like most about ROTC is the people you meet, I know I have made many lifetime friends.""I joined the AFROTC program so that I could work toward the major of my choice, while at the same time gaining the leadership skills and professionalism needed to succeed in the real world. The benefits of ROTC are what really drew me to the program. While in college I have the opportunity to earn scholarships, work with other student leaders, and still have fun. After graduation, I will enter the Air Force working in the career field of my choice, with a competetive salary, the ability to travel all over the world, a great vacation plan, and many other exciting oportunities. I can't wait to be an officer in the United States Air Force!
"To AFROTC Detachment 255, I owe my thanks… …for teaching me self discipline. …for teaching me self-motivation. …for inspiring me to reach beyond my set goals and achieve greater things. …for teaching me life lessons not available in the typical college classroom. …for providing me with a constant challenge to overcoming communication barriers I may have previously had. …for strengthening leadership skills I already possess and giving me an important leadership experience vital to becoming the best Air Force Officer I can be."
"With Air Force ROTC representing less than .2% of the University, the program has helped teach discipline, respect, and that there are other ways to have fun during college other than drinking."
"For me, it's great to be surrounded by people who are all working toward the same goals."
"So far, my experience with AFROTC has been outstanding! I'm having a great time at all the activities we have been doing. Everyone who has more experience in the program has been extremely helpful and full of information, and that is very much appreciated. I am really excited and happy that I made the decision to start AFROTC, my only regret is that I didn't make this decision sooner!"
"I really like how accommodating everyone was to me. I felt accepted right away"
"My first impression about the AFROTC was that the program is full of different opportunities and you get to hang out with people who share your same beliefs and values."
"I have actually loved my time in the AFROTC program here at Iowa. I have met a lot of people that I have become friends with and I appreciate the time and help from everyone else in the program. I have always wanted to be in the Air Force and I am glad that I decided to go through the ROTC program instead of enlisting."
"My first impression of AFROTC was everyone who was already in the program seemed very professional. Since then I've been learning a lot about the 'light switch' method and have come to find that everyone is pretty friendly and fun to be around!"
