Faculty Profile

Margaret Beck

I am an archaeologist working in Native North America. Although most of my own research is in the Great Plains and the U.S. Southwest, I have also worked in the Great Basin and Aleutian Islands. I am most interested in food, cooking practices, and culinary equipment--especially ceramic vessels--because they offer a view of cultural traditions, household behavior, and exchanges and interactions between different social groups. My major current project is a reinvestigation of the Scott County Pueblo, an archaeological site with a 7-room pueblo in western Kansas dating to about A.D. 1700.
