BA in American Studies
For over fifty years, graduates of the University of Iowa’s Department of American Studies have gone on to useful careers in education, business, journalism, the arts, museum work, and government. They have also pursued graduate or professional training in medicine, law, theology, and social work, as well as in the humanities and the social sciences.
Undergraduate Requirements for BA in American Studies
BA in Sport Studies
Sport studies is an interdisciplinary field of study that grew out of departments of physical education in the 1960s. The University of Iowa was a pioneer in this area. Graduates from the program go on to further graduate study in the field or to careers in education, journalism, administration, coaching, and sport management.
Selective Admission to the Sport Studies Major (effective Spring 2011)
To be admitted to the sport studies major, students must complete a minimum of 24 s.h. coursework and they must earn a minimum overall GPA of 2.5. Students who meet these criteria can declare the major at 120 Schaeffer Hall or through their advisor at the academic advising center.
Students who do not meet the 2.5 GPA requirement but believe they qualify for exceptional admission should file a written appeal and supply any supporting documentation or evidence deemed relevant for making a valid judgment on admission into the sport studies major. These materials should be submitted for review to 210 Jefferson Building.
