Susie is student of cultural anthropolgy. She recieved her B.A. in Anthropology at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado. From there she moved to East Tennessee and tutored writing for two years while co-directing a rural outreach organization on the side. In 2006 she came to the University of Iowa. At the University of Iowa she is building on her experiences in Tennessee and has been working with tobacco growers in this region in order to learn how these farmers are dealing with structural changes in the tobacco market. More generally, she is interested in exploring issues of race, class, and gender as they relate to issues facing the rural United States, primarily agricultural workers.
