The Anthropology Department at The University of Iowa offers funding for five years, usually in the form of Teaching and Research Assistant positions, to the great majority of graduate students who are in good standing. In addition, the department generally has funds available on a competitive basis to help offset summer research expenses for projects directly related to a graduate degree. Anthropology students also regularly serve as Teaching Assistants in Rhetoric. Multi-year Crossing Borders Fellowships are available for students working on multi-sited projects and students working on issues related to global health may also be eligible for support through the program in Global Health Studies.
In addition, one-year and multi-year Presidential Fellowships and Dean's Graduate Fellowships are available to highly qualified students. Competitive Ballard and Seashore Dissertation write-up support awards are available to students in the final stages of dissertation writing. (For more information, see the Graduate College’s information on scholarships and awards.
