Background:
I'm from New Delhi, India. I came to the University of Iowa in Fall
2004 with an M.A. and M.Phil. in Sociology from the Delhi School of
Economics, University of Delhi. My M.Phil. dissertation was a textual
analysis of some central Hindutva treatises. My M.A. paper at this
university was titled "E-mail in a Thousand and One Accents: The
nature of 'Indian English'". My current research is on English-language
education and discourses of class mobility in India. My areas of interest
include linguistic anthropology, the anthropology of education, social
stratification, gender, and colonialism.
