The anthropology department offers a variety of classes to undergraduate and graduate students. Each semester we have five introductory courses designed to give beginning students a taste of the field; Anthropology & Contemporary World Problems, Human Origins, Introduction to Prehistory, Introduction to the Study of Culture & Society, and Language, Culture, and Communication. The rest of the curriculum builds on this foundation, branching out to focus in-depth on special topics and geographic areas.
Classes numbered 003 through 100 are targeted at undergraduate students, while those from 100-199 attract a mix of undergraduates and graduates. Graduate student courses are numbered 200 and above, although Honors students can request permission to enroll at this level. To reach our non-traditional students, we offer a variety of Saturday and Evening courses every semester and intensive courses during the summer sessions. Our department offers an archaeological field school every summer (3 week session in Iowa City).
