SAYS Information:
Scouting and Youth Services is a fairly new duty in the Omicron Chapter. While
our chapter has always been dedicated to the fundamentals of scouting, our youth
programs have recently gotten so large that our Vice President of Service could
not handle them!
So in 1998, Omicron implemented a position called Vice President of Scouting and
Youth Services. This executive board position is in charge of our relationship
with Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Campfire and other youth in the community each
year. This person's main duties include those of Girl Scout University and Merit
Badge University.
During the fall, typically around 600 Girl Scouts invade the campus for Girl
Scout University, with APO brothers teaching them Girl Scout badges appropriate
for their age level.
During the spring, Merit Badge University is held. During 2005, over 1,000 Boy
Scouts came to the University of Iowa to be taught Merit Badges by APO Brothers
and members of the community.
Also included in the Vice President of Scouting and Youth Services is the
supervision of our Girl Scout Troops. Starting in 2003, Omicron decided to take
on a Brownie Girl Scout troop. In 2004 we expanded, and we now host a Brownie
and a Junior Girl Scout troop in the Iowa City area.
Campership
scholarships are offered at the end of each school year for
qualifying Boy and Girl Scouts. This year (2007), we gave over $1,800 away in
scholarships. If you need a copy of the
2007 Girl Scout campership application
or the
2007 Boy Scout campership application, please email the Webmistress
or click on the above link.
All applications are due on April 6th, 2007 - no exceptions!
