Saturday
Art Workshops
In conjunction with Composing Art Workshops Art Education conducts The Saturday Art Workshop Program
each semester. Approximately 100 children attend nine 1 1/2
hour workshops, in the basement of North Hall, taught by undergraduate
students preparing to be art teachers.
American Discovery Trail is an ongoing project centered around storytelling performance. Each year outreach efforts in the form of presentations, performances and workshops are done in schools and with community organizations across Iowa and outside the state.
Project C.H.A.N.G.E.
The Collaborative Humanities and Arts Network for Growth and Education
Funding provided by Humanities Iowa
Project CHANGE is a collaborative grassroots education program, housed in The University of Iowa’s Women’s Resource and Action Center and the University of Iowa's Art Education Department. We are committed to providing high quality educational arts and humanities experiences to people in community settings within the state of Iowa. Our trained providers work collaboratively to provide meaningful instruction in the arts and humanities to diverse groups of people and gain experience as teachers and facilitators.
Partnership with Elizabeth Tate Alternative High School
Each semester students in the secondary art education methods course work with Dr. Hani Elkadi and the students at Elizabeth Tate Alternative High School to conduct art workshops. We work in the schools twice each week and help students explore the studio practices and processes of contemporary artists through student centered high quality art instruction. University students in this course are expected to produce a unit of instruction which contains examples and information about contemporary artists who are living and making work, student centered lesson plans, and informative and genuine assessment protocols. Students also produce and keep field journals and read about ideas related to contemporary art and art education.
