The Study Abroad Office maintains information regarding all study abroad programs at the University of Iowa, including information on the UI-Nanzan Exchange, Semester in South India, CIEE programs in China and more. The department strongly urges its students to seek opportunities for summer language study and study abroad in order to accelerate the process of language acquisition, and many of the financial aid programs described in the Scholarships and Assistantships section are designed to help make such learning experiences possible. Both the department and the Office of International Programs maintain extensive files of information about study abroad opportunities. The University's memberships in the American Institute of Indian Studies (AIIS) and the China Cooperative Language and Study Programs consortium facilitate study abroad for Iowa students. The China programs provide opportunities to study language and culture in universities in Beijing, Shanghai, and Nanjing. Of special note is the Chinese Business and Society Program at the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing, in which students may study Chinese business practice and language and arrange short-term internships in Chinese and foreign enterprises.
