FILM SUMMARY
Noted for its rough realism in the portrayal of New York City streets (shot on location), the Oscar-winning "Midnight Cowboy" follows Joe Buck (Jon Voight) as an aspiring male gigolo from Texas who hopes to share in the wealth of rich city women willing to pay for his services. After arriving in New York, Buck befriends homeless con artist Ratso Rizzo (Dustin Hoffman). Together the men face the tough realities of the Big City streets. The film was Hoffman's first major role after 1967's "The Graduate," and he and Voight each turn in shining performances. "Midnight Cowboy" was the first major studio release to receive an X-rating and was the first X-rated film to win the Best Picture Academy Award. It was re-rated R by the MPAA in 1971. FILM LINKS
