FILM SUMMARY
"The summer I was eight years old, five hours disappeared from my life. Five hours, lost, gone without a trace..." So begins MYSTERIOUS SKIN, a film which tells the parallel stories of two young men sexually abused by their baseball coach as children. While one of the young men (Brady Corbet) has repressed the memory and created an alien abduction fantasy to take its place, the other (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), now a male hustler, cherished the experience, believing it to be an act of genuine love. At once harrowing and luminous, MYSTERIOUS SKIN is arguably Araki's most mature film to date, with comparisons to the work of Pedro Almodovar. Michael Wilmington of the Chicago Tribune writes, "Even though it takes you to places you may not want to go, the film never loses its human touch -- that feel of skin on skin or of the past inescapably invading the present."
