FILM SUMMARY
Sean Penn plays Sam Bickle, an ordinary man adrift in early 70s America. Though Sam is a man of high ideals, he lacks the wherewithal and brains to do anything with his life. On top of this, his wife is seeking a separation and his career as a furniture salesman is going nowhere (Sam can't stand the idea of lying to customers). Sam's feelings of frustration and hopelessness eventually lead him to explode in a violent rage at what he perceives as the dishonesty of those in power. Sam is determined that his life will have some impact, and to this end he plots to assassinate President Richard Nixon. Also starring Academy Award nominee Don Cheadle and Naomi Watts, "Assassination" is loosely based on the true story of a Baltimore man who tried to hijack a commercial airplane and fly it into the White House in 1973.
