"LEGENDARY! RIVETING! When a re-release combines great artistic power with lasting political interest, celluloid junkies are not the only ones who ought to be excited. A GREAT MOVIE!" - Stuart Klawans, The New York Times

FILM SUMMARY
By 1954, Algerians are ready to make their dreams of independence from France a reality. But the French government, embarrassed at their defeat in Vietnam, refuses to let Algeria go peacefully. Commissioned by the Algerian government to accurately and fairly portray the Algerian revolution, this was the first film produced in Algeria by Algerians. Critically acclaimed worldwide since its premier at the Venice Film Festival in 1966, this film has won 11 various International Film awards. Ty Burr of the Boston Globe says, "The chafing, mutually uncomprehending collision of Western occupiers and Muslim occupied has never been captured with such dispassionate, thrilling clarity."
