FILM SUMMARY
Now released theatrically in the U.S. for the first time ever, this 1991 masterpiece once and for all defined the career of Asian auteur Wong Kar-Wai. Shot by his long-time collaborator Christopher Doyle and boasting a cast of Hong Kong mega-stars, the movie is set in the Hong Kong of the 1960s, where Yuddy, a vain, heartless ladies' man raised by a prostitute, leaves for the Philippines in search of his real mother. Around this central plot is a series of unexpected events and romantic encounters that forge the web of romantic and existential intrigue that lies at the heart of the movie. A film about time, beauty, and the longing for love. In other words, this is vintage Wong Kar-Wai. FILM LINKS |
