FILM SUMMARY
Imelda Marcos, known as the infamous widow of ex-dictator Ferdinand Marcos for the lavish lifestyle she lived at the expense of her own people, now stars in her own documentary. As Marcos speaks at length in this film, she displays the extreme narcissism that insulated her from the suffering that ran rampant in the Phillipines and allowed her to do things like amass over 40,000 pairs of shoes. She glibly shrugs off such outrageous spending as "giving the poor people someone to live through." Robert Denerstein of the Denver Rocky Mountain News says, "In addition to being a shrewd character study, Diaz's sharply assembled film reminds us that charm can be as toxic as anything else when it comes to acquiring, holding and abusing power."
