GET INVOLVED AT THE BIJOU

THE BIJOU THEATER offers a number of ways to get involved with the theater. After you've reviewed the opportunities below, if you'd like to chat with us about other ways you can help, or have any questions, drop us an email at bijou@uiowa.edu.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The Bijou Theater is run by a 15-member volunteer Board of Directors. The Board of Directors is led by the Executive Director and Programming Director, who are collectively responsible for day-to-day management and long-term development of the theater. The Board has final say on film selection, program development, and all strategic planning for the organization.

Twelve (12) Board seats are reserved exclusively for registered students at the University of Iowa; the remaining three (3) seats may be filled by students or by non-student members of the local community. The Executive and Programming Directors must be registered UI students. All majors, interests, ages, and backgrounds are welcome. Student Board members serve two-year terms, renewable once for up to four years of possible membership. Non-student Board members serve 1-year terms, also renewable up to four years. The Executive and Programming Directors are selected each spring by the Board.

Open Board seats are filled on an as needed basis, with applications taken and interviews held once in the fall and once in the spring. Detailed information and applications are posted here 3-4 weeks before each round of interviews.

VOLUNTEER USHER PROGRAM

The Bijou relies on volunteer ushers to take tickets at the door and welcome our patrons to the theater. Ushers must complete a short training session. Training sessions are held regularly while classes are in session.

Ushers earn FREE tickets to Bijou screenings. For each film that an individual ushers, he or she receives free admission to that film plus one free admission to a future film of his or her choice. You can volunteer as much or as little as you like.
