1974 Paleoanthropological field studies at Hadar in northeastern Ethiopia with the International Afar Research Expedition under the direction of Donald Johanson.

1975 Preliminary paleoanthropological field studies in the Plio-Pleistocene exposures of the Irrawaddy Formation near Mandalay and Pagan, Burma.

1975 Field studies of the Mauritius macaque (Macaca fascicularis) - an introduced insular population. Demographic and ecological data, blood samples and skin, skull and skeletal material were collected.

1989 Archaeological survey of the jungle monuments of the 9th to 12th Century city-state of Angkor in northern Cambodia and paleoanthropological studies of Pleistocene karst caves of southern Cambodia arranged under the auspices of the Foreign Ministry.

1989 Paleoprimatological field studies in the Eocene-Oligocene deposits of the Fayum Depression in the Sahara desert of northeastern Egypt under the direction of Prof. Elwyn Simons and in conjunction with scientists from the Geological Survey of Egypt.

1990 Archaeological survey of the Mayan sites along the Usumacinta River in Mexico and Guatemala. Bonampak, Yaxchilan, Piedras Negras and the upland site of Palenque were visited.

1990 Archaeological survey of the coastal monuments of the 4th to 13th Century city-state of Champa in southern Vietnam stretching from Hue to Phan Thiet in conjunction with Cham Museum in Danang.

1991 Paleoanthropological survey of the open-air archaeological sites in the Cagayan Valley, northern Luzon, the Philippines which yielded a middle Pleistocene mammalian fauna in association with large pebble and flake tools. Geological survey of Mt. Pinatubo in eastern Luzon.

1992 Archaeological survey of the monuments of the 9th to 13th Century city-state of Pagan in central Burma (Myanmar) in conjunction with Archaeological Museum at Pagan.

According the Chinese researchers, the latter site has yielded stone artifacts dating to 2.25 million years ago - the earliest record in Asia. This survey was conducted with researchers from the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthro-pology in Beijing (October).

1999 "Why did Gigantopithecus have to Die" discusses the extinction of Gigantopithecus, the giant ape of Pleistocene Asia. Filmed on location at the University of Iowa, this German television documentary produced by OPERA TV (Berlin) for the science-magazine GALILEO first aired in Germany in April.

2000 "Treasures of Angkor" discusses the discovery of the monuments of Angkor in Camdodia from the perspective of two early explorers, Zhou Dakaun and Henri Mouhot. Filmed in on location in the Washington D.C. area, this one hour documentary for the new National Geographic channel will aire worldwide in March 2000. It will be shown in the USA in the late Spring or early summer 2000 on National Geographic and various PBS channels.
