Opening Of New CGMP Facility At UI Center For Biocatalysis and Bioprocessing
WHAT: A ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house for the new Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) facility at the University of Iowa Center for Biocatalysis and Bioprocessing. The cGMP facility offers state-of-the-art manufacturing of products suitable for clinical use .
WHO: UI Vice President for Research Meredith Hay, Ph.D., will perform the ribbon cutting. Remarks will also be made by Venkiteswaran (Mani) Subramanian, Ph.D., director of the Center for Biocatalysis and Bioprocessing
WHEN: 11:30 am Monday, July 9, 2007.
WHERE: The Multi-Tenant Facility, 2501 Crosspark Road, Oakdale Research Park.
For more than 20 years, the Center for Biocatalysis and Bioprocessing (CBB) has combined first-class scientific faculty with cutting-edge facilities to reshape and define new technologies for chemical, pharmaceutical, nutritional and agrochemical industries. The CBB's multidisciplinary faculty is dedicated to education and research, while the CBB laboratories develop and produce biotechnology products.
The CBB laboratories provide confidential contract fermentation and purification services for a wide range of industrial, governmental, and academic clients. The Center operates two separate state-of-the-art facilities. The Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) facilities focus on the niche gap between the research bench and pilot plant. Using state-of-the-art equipment, including fermentors to 1,000-liters capacity, GLP projects often involve producing product for evaluation. Based on client needs, CBB can transfer GLP processes to the higher standard of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). The completely separate GMP facilities, with fermentors to 300-liters capacity, manufacture products suitable for clinical use.
