the Black Law Student Association at The
We are very excited about this year and hope you can share in our enthusiasm. We expect the year to be busy and challenging, however, the Executive Board is eager to accept this challenge and continue the BLSA tradition of excellence.
Iowa BLSA was organized to empower Black law students with the knowledge and resources to be successful students, mentors and professionals in the legal community. Our intention is to use the foundations that have been provided by our predecessors as our impetus to engage ourselves more actively in the law school, university and local communities.
As part of our programming this year, we are continuing many of the activities that have made Iowa BLSA an integral part of the law school community. As in past years, one of our major events will be Black History Month. Throughout the entire month of February, BLSA will host events and activities on a range of topics that affect the Black community. In addition, we will continue to host our annual Night of Distinctions in which we honor those who have helped us in our endeavors and celebrate our own accomplishments.
Community Service remains an integral part of our
mission. As such, we will continue to sponsor the BLSA Oratorical Contest
and other community service activities. Additionally, we will continue to
provide programming that assists our first year students with the transition to
law school and participate in national BLSA activities. To build and maintain
relationships with Iowa BLSA alumni we will continue to participate in Back to
