Using the UI Libraries: the Infohawk catalog and on-line biblographical indices Selected internet sites and open access bibliographic indices |
The History of Medicine in Western SocietySelected internet sites and open access bibliographical indicesIt now takes nearly a full-time effort to keep up with all of the online information that could be useful for doing research projects in the history of medicine. The following are among the most reputable and supported sites for tracking down references and images. The National Library of MedicineThe National Library of Medicine has a History of Medicine Division which has tried to keep up with the changing demands for information. Until recently, the History of Medicine Division supported a separate online database, which took over from a printed Bibliography in the History of Medicine, for current literature on the history of medicine. This database, Histline, closed to new entries in the summer of 2000. New entries, and the items in the existing Histline, are being added to the main NLM databases. These are accessed through PubMed. The National Library of Medicine's own catalog of materials, LocatorPlus, can be useful when looking for titles that the University of Iowa does not have. Images
