1. Journal, Magazine and Newspaper Articles: Indexes and Abstracts

ComAbstracts
Contains abstracts of articles and books published in the areas of communication, journalism, and mass media. Years of coverage vary depending on the journal.

Communication and Mass Media Complete
An index to several hundred journals in the areas of communication and mass media. Coverage of each journal varies with some dating as far back as the early 20th Century.

EBSCOhost: Academic Search Elite
Indexes articles from both popular magazines and scholarly journals. Subject areas covered include biological sciences, economics, communications, computer sciences, engineering, language and linguistics, arts and literature, medical sciences, women's studies, and general interest. It also provides indexing for The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and The Christian Science Monitor. Full text is provided for most citations and dates go as far back as 1985.

ERIC
Focuses on education-related topics. It also covers many other subject areas, such as psychology, social sciences, health education, recreation and leisure, communications, and personnel issues. [Jane: Some AEJMC conference papers are available through ERIC. Others are available through an archive maintained at Michigan State University.]

LexisNexis Academic Universe
Description: Provides access to a wide range of news, business, legal research, medical and reference information.

PsycINFO
Covers the professional and academic literature in psychology and related disciplines. Provides references to the international psychological literature from 1872 to the present. Also covers English-language books and chapters published worldwide as well as technical reports and dissertations from the last several decades.

Sociological Abstracts
To quote from the database, this source “indexes the international literature in sociology and related disciplines…The database provides abstracts of journal articles and citations to book reviews drawn from over 1,700 serials publications, and also provides abstracts of books, book chapters, dissertations, and conference papers…” Coverage is 1963 to present.

Web of Science (ISI Web of Knowledge)
A citation database that includes the Science Citation Index, the Social Science Citation Index, and the Arts and Humanities Citation Index. Coverage is1979 to present.

2. Finding Materials Held by the UI Libraries
The University of Iowa Libraries' catalog is one of the links you’ll find on the InfoHawk Gateway. Also on the InfoHawk Gateway you will see a category called "Full Text" that will lead you to full text journals and books.

3. Dissertations
Digital Dissertations (Dissertation Abstracts)
“ With more than 2 million entries, the Dissertation Abstracts database is the single, authoritative source for information about doctoral dissertations and master's theses. The database represents the work of authors from over 1,000 graduate schools and universities.”

4. Finding Materials in Other Libraries
Access to numerous library catalogs can be found through the InfoHawk Gateway. One of many catalogs on that site is WorldCat, a worldwide union catalog in which you can search the holdings of 9,000 member libraries.
