This
paper presents case studies of the Web sites co-produced
by two megachurch pastors and their congregations: Bishop T.D.
Jakes
and The Potter's
House of Dallas, and Pastor Joel Osteen of Lakewood Church
in Houston.
The
exploratory study attempts to gauge the synergistic relationship
of the pastors,
their brick-and-mortar
churches, and the Internet. The televangelists, who are exemplars
of successful megapreachers, have not only expanded their
ministries through television but also have converged "the
electric church" with their online presence. The study focuses
on how the Internet is used to communicate the gospel and to
promote the personal ministries and business exploits of both
Jakes and
Osteen. |
