About the Iowa Cello Society
Founded in April of 2002 by Anthony
Arnone and Hannah
Holman, the Iowa Cello Society is a state wide organization, based in
Iowa City at the University of Iowa. The
ICS is dedicated to promoting the art and appreciation of cello playing, to
furthering the musical development of its members, and to providing performance
opportunities. It unites professional, amateur and student cellists interested
in the entire repertoire, including early, ethnic, folk, jazz, and classical
forms. The society plans programs throughout Iowa featuring performance, collegial
exchange, pedagogical study, sources of music and instruments and instrument
maintenance and care. Its Inaugural Concert on September 28th, 2002 was a
big success with guest cellist Colin Carr performing
solo works of Bach and Britten and giving a wonderful masterclass at the Univeristy
of Iowa. Since then, we have had reknowned guests such as Richard Aaron, Bonnie
Hampton, Marc Johnson, Felix Wang, Tanya Carey, George Work, Matt Turner,
and many others. The ICS plans to publish three newsletters annually. For
further information on any of these activities, please call Anthony
