On April 3 the Iowa Supreme Court declared Iowa's ban on gay marriage unconstitutional. We have survey data on attitudes towards gay marriage in Iowa from a survey we ran March 23-31. The TOPLINE for the survey is HERE. In October 2008, as part of the Big Ten Battleground Poll, we asked Iowa voters their attitudes towards gay marriage and civil unions. Our results from fall 2008 are here. The takeaway is that about 1/3 of Iowans oppose any kind of same sex relationship recognition, but less than 1/3 actually support gay marriage itself. HAWKEYE POLL: Information about our 2007-2009 series of Hawkeye Poll election surveys are available on the UI News Service website as well as the University of Iowa election 2008 site and at the SSRC. See our press release interpreting the Big Ten poll in Iowa in October 2008. We also took a look at voters by age and we examined the persistence of beliefs that Obama is Muslim. |
