Help is available from graduate students in Spanish and Portuguese who will review your written work and offer suggestions for improving the content and structure of your argument. The Spanish Writing Center has been highly effective in helping students in recent semesters.

Please be aware, however, that the objective of the Spanish Writing Center is to help improve the structure of your argument. Less attention will be paid to simple proof-reading issues of Spanish expression.

Two excellent ways to use the Spanish Writing Center are: 1) To organize your ideas, choose quotes, and prepare an outline before you begin to write; and 2) To revise and improve your paper for the final version

A sign-up sheet is available on the door to 121 Phillips Hall for appointments at the Spanish Writing Center. 121 Phillips Hall can be accessed either through the main entrance to the Department of Spanish and Portuguese (111 Phillips Hall) or through 123 Phillips Hall.

Hours for Spring, 2004, are:

lunes: 1:00 - 5:00 pm

martes: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm, 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm, 4:30-8:00 pm

miércoles: 8:30-10:30 am, 11:30 am-4:30 pm

jueves: 1:00-5:00 pm

viernes: 9:00 am - 1:00 pm, 1:30-3:30 pm

Please bring your paper, the text you are writing about, and any information which I may have made available to you regarding the assignment.

HAPI - Hispanic American Periodicals Indexes (Access available through the "Gateway to Online resources at the University of Iowa's Library webpage).

HAPI indexes hundreds of academic journals and other forms of periodic literature from and about Latin America. It should be your number one on-line database for finding secondary sources about the authors and texts we read this semester.

One of the leading newspapers from Mexico City. Provides excellent internet access with searchable database of back issues dating to early 1990s.

On-Line Directories

Portal to Bi-Lingual Dictionaries

Offers a wide array of on-line Spanish-English and English-Spanish Dictionaries. I make no endorsements of any particular dictionary, and all the usual caveates about bi-lingual dictionaries apply.
