48:132 Advanced Video
Fall 2005, Tues & Thurs 9:30-11:20

In this course we will explore the technology and aesthetics of single-channel video production, from planning and pre-production, through shooting, editing and public presentation. Building on the technical skills students have acquired in the video pre-requisites for the course, Advanced Video will assist each student in developing his/her personal vision as a media-maker. The course explores the properties and parameters unique to video as a creative, communicative audio-visual media. To that end, students produce one short guided assignment and two more advanced projects of their individual design. There will also be two writing assignments, readings, plus in-class student presentations

As a class, we will consider video in relationship to film, television and other mainstream media, and look at a range of video productions, including but not limited to: recent digital fiction, activist documentary, queer/feminist video, video diaries, contemporary video art and collage. Students are expected to work independently and collaboratively on their video projects, to present work in progress in class, and to actively participate in screening and workshop discussions. For more details on the coursework and the assignments, please see the syllabus.
